What are GAW and IC? Are they separate or different programmes?

Chapter Leadership Training Convention (CLTC) is BBYO UK’s cornerstone leadership programme for teens in Years 9 – 12 (or Scottish/Irish equivalents), that takes place every September, at a location just north of London.

Over the course of this Shabbaton, participants will gain the skills and tools that they need in order to run a BBYO UK local chapter, as well as lead in their community, and understand how these skills can transfer to other aspects of their lives. Teens will also experience a BBYO UK Shabbat, where there is something for everyone, and take part in exciting activities led by our National Executive Board.

Is CLTC only for chapter leaders?

Whether you are planning on running a BBYO UK chapter, or you just want to come along to learn something new, CLTC is open to everyone! If there isn't a chapter in your area but you are interested in starting one, please contact office@bbyo.org.uk and we can support you in opening a new chapter, as well as provide a discount for you to be able to attend CLTC.

The experience is designed to let teens learn by doing, with hands-on, immersive programming, and connecting moments that allow them to continue building an inclusive, pluralistic, and peer-led BBYO community.

If you are running for an elected chapter position, you should attend the entirety of CLTC. If this is not possible, you will need to make the time to sit down with the National Executive Board and catch up on what you have missed. BBYO UK reserves the right to remove anyone from a Chapter Executive Committee or the elections process if they are seen as unfit to carry out their role or have not completed the appropriate training.

Would I have to miss school?

The programme starts at 14:00 on Friday 20th September in order to allow enough time to begin programming before Shabbat comes in. If this would mean having to miss some or all of the school day, BBYO UK can provide an authorised absence letter.

We have a good relationship with all major Jewish schools in the UK, as well as other schools attended by our participants. As this is a leadership experience, schools see the value in the programme and are keen for their students to be allowed the opportunity to attend.

Travel to and from CLTC

Teens attending from London, Essex or other nearby areas, are expected to be dropped directly at the site by a parent/guardian. If a teen is attending from outside of these areas, we will be in touch to discuss a transport plan from centralised locations such as Manchester and Glasgow.

At BBYO UK, we practice Tikkun Olam meaning 'mend the world'. Help us to uphold our commitment to the protection and mending of our planet by sharing a ride to the site with friends or getting public transport.

What is the cost?
