What is International Convention?
Over Presidentsʼ Day weekend (February 14-18, 2019), more than 5,000 of the Jewish community’s top teen leaders, educators, professionals and philanthropists from around the world will come together in Denver, Colorado for one of the largest Jewish communal events of the year. Delegates will hear from and meet inspiring speakers, deepen leadership skills, serve the local community, celebrate Shabbat and learn together, have access to exclusive music performances and do their part to strengthen the Jewish Future. In addition to showcasing spirit and community pride, International Convention (IC) delegates will join in the democratic process of furthering BBYO's agenda and elect AZA and BBG’s next International Board. Opportunities to be a part of IC’s host region, engage with the local community, reunite with old friends and build lifelong global friendships are constants of every IC and are sure to be major highlights of our time together!
Global Ambassadors Programme 2019 (Thursday 7th - Wednesday 13th February)
In addition to convention itself, teens from the UKI are privileged to fly out to America a week early to participate in Global Ambassadors Programme. A unique opportunity to join BBYO teens from countries outside of North America to explore the Denver community and all it has to offer; including day trips, volunteering and social action opportunities and the chance to stay with host families in and around Denver for the week. We are pleased and thankful to say that the cost of attending Global Ambassadors Programme is fully funded by donors and supporters to BBYO, meaning that attending the Global Ambassadors Programme adds no cost to the fee of IC 2019.
Do I have to attend Global Ambassadors Programme AND Convention itself?
No. On the registration form, you will be able to share which dates you are available for to attend IC 2019. You are welcome to join for all of the Global Ambassadors Programme Week, for part of Global Ambassadors Week or for convention itself. There are 3 options for departure dates from the UK: Thursday 7th February, Sunday 10th February or Wednesday 13th February. At least one of these flights will have a chaperone flying with the group and we aim to have staff on each flight. If having your teen chaperoned on their flights is important to you, please reach out to us and let us know. You will also have the chance to say if you cannot make any of these departure dates but still wish to attend IC 2019. All teens will depart back to the UK on Monday 18th February once convention finishes and will likely land back in the UK on Tuesday 19th February, due to overnight flights from the US.
How much does IC 2019 cost?
The true cost of IC is $1020. Due to BBYO's wonderful network of donors who will be covering half the price of convention, we are very fortunate to be able to offer a special, highly subsidised price of $550 (excluding flights) for UKI Members.
BBYO's aim is to ensure that all of our families have support for all of our experiences. Depending on circumstances, financial assistance may be provided. Please contact Kira Blumer (email@example.com) in confidence to discuss this, should you require.
What do I do about flights?
BBYO works with a range of travel agents and airlines to be able to secure discounted rates on specific airlines and flights. If you wish to find out more information about this, please let the BBYO UKI staff know and they can provide you with more details. We are happy to co-ordinate group flights for those who wish.
