I am sure that a lot of people have questions about what BBYO is up to at the moment – what are we doing during the COVID-19 situation and how are we keeping our members active?
It is good news for BBYO because we are alive and well. We have easily managed to adapt all of our programmes online. Our Chapters have been running weekly programmes throughout March, April and May for our community. We have already had some amazing sessions, including a live Havdalah with special guest Grant Shapps MP with nearly 80 members joining, our 2020 J-Serve projects (BBYO's International Day of Giving), celebrations for BBYO Founders Day, Yom Ha'atzmaut and services for Yom Hazikaron and Yom HaShoah. Additionally, we have had some more informal activities such as yoga, game nights and pub quizzes, even some with teams from other countries such as Israel or the USA. For example, on 10th March, Deganya ran a highly popular baking programme – members were given a choice of baking pizza or brownies and both foods were made in online breakout rooms.
It is very important to remember that during this time, keeping in contact with friends is hugely valuable for everyone, especially teens. BBYO’s online programming provides a very easy way to do this, and new friends can be made without even having to go outside! For the members, knowing that they have an exciting social arrangement each Sunday evening has given them something to look forward to and is a nice close to the weekend before, for many, ‘virtual school’ starts again.
Despite the fact we are all reasonably far away from each other, it feels as if we are all still together – that’s what is so special about BBYO.
If YOU want to come and join our programmes, use this link https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe-36uPREjG0OQCqeZCsmvRFRBwB50iJSC9ca-6VTx-Y2TkBw/viewform to sign up for the remaining programmes in May – we would love to see new faces at our upcoming programmes such as karaoke, game shows and pub quizzes.
I hope that everyone is keeping well, and staying safe.
